Girl Overboard

A story of watching someone you love drift away.

Girl Overboard delves bravely into the world of addiction, trauma, sexual assault, and grief, along with how these things can ultimately lead to hope in the world. If you've experienced any of these things as a friend or family member, you're in the right place. Here you'll find understanding, grace, and truth.

Looking forward…

Girl Overboard is more than just a podcast. It’s a story that I know many people will feel a connection to. As heartbreaking as it is, nearly everyone has been effected by addiction in one way or another these days. And even so - the harsh stigma continues to swell around addiction like a dark fog.

I have 3 main hopes for Girl Overboard.

Hope #1: Tell my sister’s story in a way that honors how amazing she is. Sierra is the reason for this podcast and I want her to remain at the center. It is her story that will help people to see that addicts are people too. We’re all humans doing our best to survive. Addiction does not have to taint the memory of the ones we’ve loved and lost.

Hope #2: Open the eyes of those who have been fortunate enough to not encounter addiction in their lives. May they learn that addiction is a disease, not a lack of will power. May they also learn that it is possible to understand that this disease is ugly and still find the people struggling with it to be beautiful and strong.

Hope #3: Start a conversation. Get people talking about the things that weigh heavy on their hearts and help people to recognize that admitting our struggles does not make us weak, it make us strong. Connection is the only way to heal and my hope is that this story will connect people far and wide.

I am a far different person than I was five years ago. I’ve ebbed and I’ve flowed and I’m ready now to pursue something bigger than myself with all that I have.

I see Girl Overboard evolving into a movement of live speeches and storytelling, to more seasons, and inspiring new podcasts about the struggles and joys of being human. Because isn’t that what it’s all about?
